ART
The experience of art for students as integral in the life long pursuit of learning. My Philosophy of art is fairly straightforward. I believe to foster a love of learning in any subject is paramount to the life long educational process that produces individuals that have the ability to think, reason and make informed decisions that affect themselves, family and community. Because art is so far reaching in to the visual world in which we live, it is not only an enhancement to entertain and delight the visual sense, is useful in communicating concepts and ideas to all students and especially those students with learning differences. Teaching art should therefore always be about the process rather then the product. It should show a student's individual choices as well as reflect their results. It should encourage individuality while staying within the given guidelines and above all foster pride in achievement, self worth and expression and curiosity.
This year in art your child will experience various artists and imitate their style, technique, and/or movements to create individually representative expressions of that art. In the lower grades the focus will be on applying learned skills and making choices that reflect their individuality. They will be exposed to new materials and techniques and the artists that used them. The older students while still learning about artists, their styles and techniques, will focus more on communication and self-expression. I find it also important to create a cohesive learning environment by connecting with their other areas of study. The Middle School Art this year will focus on connecting the Art of Physical Science to the Science of Art, Visual communication to written communication, the Study of social interaction within a culture at a given time with the Culture of art that gives a voice to and influences the social happenings of a time period. I hope to infuse the knowledge that education, to be its most successful, intertwines multiple disciplines to create a cooperative holistic learning experience for your children. We are very excited to be able to offer this method of inter-curricular education. Please feel free to call or e-mail with any questions or comments.
